What technology should a golf coach use to analyze my swing?

By Best Golf ProsHuman Edited September 2026

A verified golf coach should use dual-radar launch monitors (like TrackMan 4) or high-speed photometric camera systems (like Foresight GCQuad).

iPads lie.

At 100 mph, a golf ball stays in contact with the clubface for only 0.5 milliseconds (1/2,000th of a second). A tablet camera shooting at 30 to 60 frames per second leaves a blind spot of over four feet into impact. That means the camera snaps one frame two feet before the ball, and the next frame two feet after—completely missing the strike.

When an instructor in a big box store points an iPad at you and draws lines on a blurry screen, they are guessing why you sliced based on a camera that didn't even capture the hit.

A clubface just 2.0° open to your swing path sends your ball 18 yards into the trees. Human vision cannot detect 2.0° at 100 mph. If a coach claims they can "see" your impact with the naked eye or an iPad, walk away. A real craftsman measures exact club delivery down to the millimeter on tour-grade radar.
